RODRIGUEZ -- read once and referred to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to providing managed care enrollees access to the services of the foot center of New York THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraphs (d), (e), (j) and (k) of subdivision 1 of section 364-j of the social services law, paragraph (d) as amended by chapter 653 of the laws of 1997 and paragraphs (e), (j) and (k) as amended by chapter 649 of the laws of 1996, are amended to read as follows: (d) "Medical services provider". A physician, nurse, nurse practition- er, physician assistant, licensed midwife, dentist, optometrist, DOCTOR OF PODIATRIC MEDICINE or other licensed health care practitioner author- ized to provide medical assistance services. (e) "Center of excellence." [A] THE FOOT CENTER OF NEW YORK AND ANY health care facility certified to operate under article twenty-eight of the public health law that offers specialized treatment expertise in HIV care services as defined by the commissioner of health. (j) "Specialty care center". A "specialty care center" shall mean THE FOOT CENTER OF NEW YORK AND only such centers as are accredited or designated by an agency of the state or federal government or by a voluntary national health organization as having special expertise in treating the disease or condition for which it is accredited or desig- nated. (k) "Special care". Care, services and supplies relating to the treat- ment of mental illness, mental retardation, developmental disabilities, DIABETES, alcoholism, alcohol abuse or substance abuse, or HIV infection/AIDS. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
