BARCLAY, DUPREY, TENNEY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Governmental Operations AN ACT to amend the legislative law, in relation to limiting the amount of time a legislator may serve as a legislative leader THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The legislative law is amended by adding a new section 5-b to read as follows: S 5-B. LIMITS ON TIME A LEGISLATOR MAY SERVE AS A LEGISLATIVE LEADER. NO MEMBER OF THE LEGISLATURE MAY BE ELECTED TO SERVE MORE THAN FOUR CONSECUTIVE TWO YEAR TERMS AS THE TEMPORARY PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE, MINORITY LEADER OF THE SENATE, SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY, MINORITY LEADER OF THE ASSEMBLY OR THE CHAIRPERSON OF ANY SENATE OR ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE. S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed- ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
