BILL NUMBER:S1758 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring a licensee's residential address to be printed on his or her driver's license PURPOSE: Requires a licensee's residential address to be printed on his or her driver's license. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 504 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new subdivision 4. JUSTIFICATION: This bill will require that any New York State Driver's License that is issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles has the licensee's current residential address and any post office box address that the licensee may have. This will further ensure a licensee's identity and aid in preventing identity theft in the State. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: 2011-12: A.529/8.805

THIELE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring a licensee's residential address to be printed on his or her driver's license THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 504 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new subdivision 4 to read as follows: 4. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL REQUIRE THAT EVERY LICENSE ISSUED TO AN APPLICANT INDICATE THE APPLICANT'S CURRENT RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS IN ADDI- TION TO ANY POST OFFICE BOX ADDRESS INDICATED. IN THE EVENT OF A CHANGE OF RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS, IT SHALL BE THE DUTY OF THE LICENSEE TO NOTIFY THE COMMISSIONER OF SUCH CHANGE PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF SUBDIVI- SION FIVE OF SECTION FIVE HUNDRED FIVE OF THIS ARTICLE. S 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
