BILL NUMBER:S2394 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the town law, in relation to permitting fire districts to form ambulance companies PURPOSE: To permit fire districts to equip emergency fire districts and first aid squads. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Amends section 176 of the Town Law by adding an new subdivision 10-a to allow fire districts to organize, operate, maintain and equip ambulance companies, including the purchase of uniforms to be used by the members of such companies, and provide for the removal of such members for cause. JUSTIFICATION: Section 176 of the Town Law details the powers and duties of the Board of Fire District Commissioners. Subsection 10 provides that the Board of Fire Commissioners may organize, operate, maintain and equip fire companies but makes no reference to ambulance squads. LAVALLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to amend the town law, in relation to permitting fire districts to form ambulance companies THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 176 of the town law is amended by adding a new subdivision 10-a to read as follows: 10-A. MAY ORGANIZE, OPERATE, MAINTAIN AND EQUIP AMBULANCE COMPANIES, INCLUDING THE PURCHASE OF UNIFORMS TO BE USED BY THE MEMBERS OF SUCH COMPANIES, AND PROVIDE FOR THE REMOVAL OF SUCH MEMBERS FOR CAUSE.
