BILL NUMBER:S272 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the insurance law, in relation to requiring coverage for hospitalization and anesthesia services related to the provision of dental services PURPOSE: This legislation would require health insurance policies to cover hospitalization and anesthesia charges in connection with dental care in specified cases. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: See Bill. JUSTIFICATION: Under existing provisions of the Insurance Law, an insured is entitled to coverage for hospitalization and anesthesia for various medical conditions. However, dental ailments are not considered a medical condition and such coverage has been heretofore not included in law. Dental health is an important aspect of an individual's overall well being and this legislation would facilitate the provision of quality dental coverage to many insured individuals.
