BILL NUMBER:S7041 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the social services law, in relation to storing images and documents in the statewide automated child welfare information system PURPOSE: This legislation would require the statewide automated child welfare information system be capable of storing images and documents SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 requires the statewide automated child welfare information system to be capable of storing images and documents. Section 2 states this act will take effect on January 1, 2016. JUSTIFICATION: New York State implemented the statewide automated child welfare information system as the result of a 1993 federal law. When the original contracts for the system were announced in 1996, Windows 95 had just been released, which included the first version of Internet Explorer. GALLIVAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Children and Families AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to storing images and documents in the statewide automated child welfare information system THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 422 of the social services law is amended by adding a new subdivision 13-a to read as follows: 13-A. THE STATEWIDE AUTOMATED CHILD WELFARE INFORMATION SYSTEM SHALL BE CAPABLE OF STORING IMAGES AND DOCUMENTS. S 2. This act shall take effect January 1, 2016.
