BILL NUMBER:S800 TITLE OF BILL: An act providing for sex equity in moneys appropriated by the state for athletic sports teams or sports organizations PURPOSE: To provide equal funding to athletic teams and organization regardless of sex. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section One states: The purpose of this legislation is to ensure equal funding for all persons on athletic sports teams or sport organizations, regardless of sex. The state would ensure the opportunity to compete and provide for equal access of equipment, facilities, supplies, uniforms, travel opportunities and allowances. Section Two states that all appropriations of state moneys shall be equally matched and appropriated to a comparable sports team or sports organization in the state of New York of the opposite sex. JUSTIFICATION: It is only fair and just that when the State of New York appropriates moneys to sports teams and organizations that it provide equal funding to similar teams or organizations of the opposite sex.

PARKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation AN ACT providing for sex equity in moneys appropriated by the state for athletic sports teams or sports organizations THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Legislative intent. The purpose of this legislation is to ensure equal funding for all persons on athletic sports teams or sports organizations, regardless of their sex. Upon the equal funding of athletic sports teams or sports organizations, regardless of their sex, the state would ensure the opportunity to compete and provide for equal access of equipment, facilities, supplies, uniforms, travel opportu- nities and allowances. S 2. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, upon the appropri- ation of state moneys to an athletic sports team or sports organization in the state of New York, such appropriation of state moneys shall be equally matched and appropriated to a comparable sports team or sports organization in the state of New York of the opposite sex. S 3. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to all moneys appropriated on or after the effective date of this act.
