BILL NUMBER:S3659 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to enacting the "skills for direct support professional jobs for the developmentally disabled act" PURPOSE: The bill requires the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities in consultation with the Department of Labor, the Department of Education and any other office deemed appropriate to produce a report regarding state workforce need projections and credential production for direct support professional jobs for the developmentally disabled. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 2 amends mental hygiene law by adding a new section 13.41 to report on workforce needs and credential production. The report would include the state's current and anticipated workforce needs over the next five years as well as the number of degrees, certificates and other credentials that higher education institutions expect to issue. The report would also identify any workforce needs and any institutions that may meet projected needs. ORTT -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Mental Health and Develop- mental Disabilities AN ACT to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to enacting the "skills for direct support professional jobs for the developmentally disabled act" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "skills for direct support professional jobs for the developmentally disabled act". S 2. The mental hygiene law is amended by adding a new section 13.42 to read as follows: S 13.42 REPORT ON WORKFORCE NEEDS AND CREDENTIAL PRODUCTION. 1. TO THE EXTENT PRACTICABLE WITHIN AVAILABLE RESOURCES AND SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF DATA CURRENTLY COLLECTED BY AND ACCESSIBLE TO THE OFFICE, THE OFFICE, IN CONSULTATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, AND ANY OTHER ENTITY THE OFFICE DEEMS APPROPRI- ATE, SHALL PRODUCE A REPORT REGARDING STATE WORKFORCE NEED PROJECTIONS AND CREDENTIAL PRODUCTION.
