BILL NUMBER: S6643 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to designating physicians employed by a municipal police department while deployed with the special weapons and tactics team, as peace officers PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To allow a licensed physician employed by a municipal police department while deployed with a SWAT team and in performance of their duties to be defined as a peace officer. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section 1 amends the criminal procedure law to allow a licensed physician employed by a municipal police department while deployed with a SWAT team and in performance of their duties to be defined as a peace officer. However shall be deemed to authorize such officer to carry possess repair or dispose of a firearm unless the appropriate license has been issued pursuant to section 400.00 of the penal law. ORTT -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Codes AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to designating physicians employed by a municipal police department while deployed with the special weapons and tactics team, as peace officers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law is amended by adding a new subdivision 84 to read as follows: 84. A LICENSED PHYSICIAN EMPLOYED BY A MUNICIPAL POLICE DEPARTMENT, WHILE DEPLOYED WITH THE SPECIAL WEAPONS AND TACTICS TEAM, AND WHEN PERFORMING THEIR DUTIES; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT NOTHING IN THIS SUBDI- VISION SHALL BE DEEMED TO AUTHORIZE SUCH OFFICER TO CARRY, POSSESS, REPAIR OR DISPOSE OF A FIREARM UNLESS THE APPROPRIATE LICENSE THEREFOR HAS BEEN ISSUED PURSUANT TO SECTION 400.00 OF THE PENAL LAW.
