LAVINE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to approved programs and examinations for applicants for a license as a physician assistant THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 3 of section 6540 of the education law, as amended by chapter 48 of the laws of 2012, is amended to read as follows: 3. Approved program. The term "approved program" means a program for the education of physician assistants which has been formerly approved by the department, OR A PROGRAM DETERMINED BY THE DEPARTMENT TO BE COMPARABLE AND RECOGNIZED BY THE APPROPRIATE CIVIL AUTHORITIES OF THE COUNTY IN WHICH THE SCHOOL IS LOCATED AS AN ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION PROGRAM. S 2. Paragraph (e) of subdivision 1 of section 6541 of the education law, as amended by chapter 48 of the laws of 2012, is amended to read as follows: (e) in the case of an applicant for a license as a physician assist- ant, has obtained a passing score on an examination acceptable to the department, PROVIDED THAT ACCESS TO ANY SUCH EXAMINATION SHALL BE GRANT- ED TO ALL STUDENTS OR GRADUATES OF ANY APPROVED PROGRAM.
