S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 4167 2015-2016 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y January 29, 2015 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. HAWLEY, CERETTO -- read once and referred to the Committee on Local Governments AN ACT to provide for a referendum on the question "Do you support the division of New York into two separate states?"; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. There shall be submitted to the voters of the state at a general election held on or before December 31, 2016 the following ques- tion: "Do you support the division of New York into two separate states?" S 2. Such question shall be submitted in the manner provided in the election law, and the provisions of such law, not inconsistent with this act, relating to the submission of and to the taking, counting and returning of the vote and canvassing the results upon a question submit- ted pursuant to law to the voters of the state shall apply to the ques- tion herein required to be submitted. The ballots shall be in such form as prescribed by such law. When the board of elections shall have completed its canvass of the results of the vote upon such question, it shall forthwith certify the results of the vote upon such question to the secretary of the senate and clerk of the assembly. S 3. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire January 1, 2017 when upon such date the provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed.
