BILL NUMBER:S1645 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to supplemental educational improvement plan grants PURPOSE: This bill captures regional cost indexes in calculating SEIP grants. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section I of this bill amends Paragraph B of Subdivision 8 of Section 3641 of the Education Law, as amended by Section 29 of Part B of Chapter 57 of the laws of 2008 to read as follows: To the Yonkers City School District there shall be paid seventeen million five hundred thousand dollars multiplied by such District's regional cost index. JUSTIFICATION: Regional cost indexes were recently adopted under the State's new Foundation Aid formula for public education. Certain school districts, however, may also receive SEIP grants, which are designed to provide additional State funds for the continuation of programs and services under a court ordered plan. STEWART-COUSINS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to supplemental educa- tional improvement plan grants THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph b of subdivision 8 of section 3641 of the educa- tion law, as amended by section 29 of part B of chapter 57 of the laws of 2008, is amended to read as follows: b. To the Yonkers city school district there shall be paid seventeen million five hundred thousand dollars ($17,500,000) MULTIPLIED BY SUCH DISTRICT'S REGIONAL COST INDEX, PURSUANT TO SUBPARAGRAPH TWO OF PARA- GRAPH A OF SUBDIVISION FOUR OF SECTION THIRTY-SIX HUNDRED TWO OF THIS ARTICLE, on an annual basis. Such grant shall be payable from funds appropriated for such purpose and shall be apportioned to the Yonkers city school district in accordance with the payment schedules contained in section thirty-six hundred nine-a of this article, notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary.
