BILL NUMBER:S2699 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to requiring the waiver of the regents examination requirement for certain students who take advanced placement examinations PURPOSE: To require the regents exam to be waived for any student who scores a 3,4, or 5 on the advanced placement examination in the subject of the regents examination SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill amends the education law by adding a new section 208-b to create a primary school regents waiver to waive the requirement for a student to take and pass a regents exam for subjects in which the student took an advanced placement exam and received a 3 or higher. Section 2 of the bill is the enacting clause. JUSTIFICATION: Currently students in New York State that take advanced coursework and consequently advanced placement exams are able to receive college

FELDER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring the waiver of the regents examination requirement for certain students who take advanced placement examinations THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 208-b to read as follows: S 208-B. HIGH SCHOOL REGENTS EXAMINATION WAIVER. THE REGENTS SHALL WAIVE THE REQUIREMENT FOR A STUDENT TO TAKE AND PASS A REGENTS EXAMINA- TION FOR A SUBJECT IN WHICH A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT HAS TAKEN AN ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSE AND RECEIVED A 3, 4 OR 5 AS A SCORE ON THE ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMINATION THEREFOR.
