FAHY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to prohibiting bus routes from stopping in front of the residence of a registered sex offender THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 3622 of the education law, as amended by chapter 474 of the laws of 1996, is amended to read as follows: § 3622. Routes. (A) The board of education or trustees shall plan each school transportation route, as defined in subdivision three of section thirty-six hundred twenty-one of this article, in such manner as to promote maximum efficiency in the operation of a school bus on such route. Whenever practicable each route shall be planned to operate with- in the boundary of a school district. If any or all pupils of a school district receive instruction in a school or schools beyond the boundary of such district, the board shall plan a route or routes beyond the boundary of such district to such school or schools for such pupils. (B) WHENEVER PRACTICABLE AND SAFE FOR THE PUPIL, THE BOARD OF EDUCA- TION OR TRUSTEES SHALL BE PROHIBITED FROM DESIGNATING SCHOOL BUS STOPS IN FRONT OF THE RESIDENCE OF ANY REGISTERED LEVEL THREE SEX OFFENDER OR REGISTERED LEVEL TWO SEX OFFENDER WHOSE VICTIM WAS UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN. § 2.
