S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 10255 I N A S S E M B L Y March 27, 2018 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. ORTIZ -- read once and referred to the Committee on Codes AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to making a false statement to an official of a municipal agency THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The penal law is amended by adding a new section 240.49 to read as follows: § 240.49 MAKING A FALSE STATEMENT TO AN OFFICIAL OF A MUNICIPAL GOVERN- MENT AGENCY. A PERSON IS GUILTY OF MAKING A FALSE STATEMENT TO AN OFFICIAL OF A MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT AGENCY WHEN HE OR SHE, BY WORDS OR ACTION, KNOWING- LY MAKES A FALSE STATEMENT TO ANY OFFICIAL OF A MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT AGENCY IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK. MAKING A FALSE STATEMENT TO AN OFFICIAL OF A MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT AGENCY IS A CLASS A MISDEMEANOR. § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed- ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
