ABBATE, HEVESI, LOPEZ, LUPARDO, MAGEE, McDONOUGH, THIELE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Correction AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to reporting sex offen- der changes of address to the division of criminal justice services THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 168-f of the correction law, as amended by chapter 67 of the laws of 2008, is amended to read as follows: 4. Any sex offender shall register with the division no later than ten calendar days after any change of address, internet accounts with inter- net access providers belonging to such offender, internet identifiers that such offender uses, or his or her status of enrollment, attendance, employment or residence at any institution of higher education. IF ANY SEX OFFENDER SUBMITS A CHANGE OF ADDRESS TO A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, OR IF A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY FACILITATES THE CHANGE OF ADDRESS FOR SUCH SEX OFFENDER, THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY SHALL, WITHIN FIVE BUSINESS DAYS, FORWARD THE CHANGE OF ADDRESS FORM TO THE DIVISION. THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY SHALL PROVIDE A COPY OF THE COMPLETED FORM TO THE OFFENDER AND RETAIN A COPY FOR ITS RECORDS. A fee of ten dollars, as authorized by subdivision eight of section one hundred sixty-eight-b of this article, shall be submitted by the sex offender each time such offender registers any change of address or any change of his or her status of enrollment, attendance, employment or residence at any insti- tution of higher education. Any failure or omission to submit the required fee shall not affect the acceptance by the division of the change of address or change of status. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
