 AN ACT to amend the workers' compensation law, in relation to payment of
   compensation to employees who suffer permanent partial disability
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The opening paragraph of subdivision 3 of section 15 of the
 workers' compensation law is amended to read as follows:
   In  case  of disability partial in character but permanent in quality,
 FOR WHICH THE IMPAIRMENT OF WAGE EARNING CAPACITY IS FOUND TO  BE  UNDER
 EIGHTY-FIVE  PERCENT, the compensation shall be sixty-six and two-thirds
 per centum of the average weekly wages and shall be paid to the employee
 DURING THE CONTINUANCE OF SUCH PERMANENT PARTIAL DISABILITY,  BUT  SHALL
 NOT  EXCEED  FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE WEEKS FROM THE DATE OF THE INJURY.
 IN CASE OF DISABILITY PARTIAL IN CHARACTER BUT PERMANENT IN QUALITY, FOR
 WHICH THE IMPAIRMENT OF WAGE EARNING CAPACITY IF FOUND TO BE EIGHTY-FIVE
 PERCENT OR MORE, THE COMPENSATION  SHALL  BE  SIXTY-SIX  AND  TWO-THIRDS
 PERCENT  OF  THE  AVERAGE WEEKLY WAGES AND SHALL BE PAID TO THE EMPLOYEE
 for the period named in this subdivision, as follows:
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next  succeed-
 ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
