 Introduced  by  Sen. RITCHIE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Agriculture
 
 AN ACT to authorize and direct the commissioner  of  the  department  of
   agriculture  and  markets  to  study leaders in farm-to-school program
   development so that a knowledge clearinghouse may be established

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The  commissioner  of  the  department of agriculture and
 markets is hereby authorized and directed to  conduct  a  study  on  the
 Vermont  Food Education Every Day program, a national leader in farm-to-
 school program development,  and  its  parent  organizations,  Shelburne
 Farms  and the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont. Special
 attention should be given to: the program models; philosophies;  curric-
 ulum  integration  approach; and staff training programs utilized by the
 Vermont Food Education Every Day program.
   § 2. Within one year of the effective date of this act the commission-
 er of agriculture and markets shall deliver a report of his or her find-
 ings and recommendations, including proposed legislation to the governor
 and the legislature. The report should describe with particularity how a
 program, similar in resources and approach to that of the  Vermont  Food
 Education Every Day program, may be implemented in this state.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
