BILL NUMBER: S293 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the election law, in relation to limiting the expenditures by candidates for senate and assembly PURPOSE : To limit the expenditures by senate and assembly campaigns. SUMMARY PROVISIONS : The election law is amended by adding a new section 14-105 to read as followed: 1. Limit expenditures by senate and assembly campaigns. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any candidate for senate is prohibited from spending more than three hundred thousand dollars and any candidate for assembly is prohibited from spending more than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars on an election for such respective office. 2. The state board of elections shall promulgate any rules and regulations necessary for the implementation of this section. ROBACH -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to limiting the expendi- tures by candidates for senate and assembly THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The election law is amended by adding a new section 14-105 to read as follows: § 14-105. LIMIT EXPENDITURES BY SENATE AND ASSEMBLY CAMPAIGNS. 1. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISIONS OF LAW, ANY CANDIDATE FOR SENATE IS PROHIBITED FROM SPENDING MORE THAN THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS AND ANY CANDIDATE FOR ASSEMBLY IS PROHIBITED FROM SPENDING MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ON AN ELECTION FOR SUCH RESPECTIVE OFFICE. 2. THE STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS SHALL PROMULGATE ANY RULES AND REGU- LATIONS NECESSARY FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS SECTION. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
