BILL NUMBER: S4360 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the education law, in relation to the compounding, dispensing and sale of pharmaceuticals PURPOSE : Permits veterinarians to maintain a stock of compounded medications for use in their practice or for sale. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1 - Amends the higher education law and permits veterinarians to keep, administer, or sell compounded medications for non-specific patients. Section - 2 - Effective Date - Immediately JUSTIFICATION : This bill would allow a veterinarian to maintain a stock of compounded medications at their practice for administration or sale. A compounded medication is a medication not manufactured, or not available in the size, strength, or modality required for the variety of species treated by veterinarians and are typically prepared by compounding pharmacies. VALESKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the compounding, dispensing and sale of pharmaceuticals THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 6807 of the education law is amended by adding a new subdivision 4 to read as follows: 4. A PHARMACIST MAY DISPENSE DRUGS, INCLUDING VETERINARY-SPECIFIC COMPOUNDED MEDICATIONS, TO A VETERINARIAN, AND A VETERINARIAN MAY POSSESS AND KEEP IN STOCK FOR ADMINISTRATION AND SALE, SUCH DRUGS PURSU- ANT TO A NON-PATIENT SPECIFIC REGIMEN PRESCRIBED OR ORDERED BY ANY PRAC- TITIONER OF VETERINARY MEDICINE LICENSED PURSUANT TO ARTICLE ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-FIVE OF THE EDUCATION LAW. § 2.
