BILL NUMBER: S8099 SPONSOR: PERALTA TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to mobile cellular devices PURPOSE: To amend the public authorities law, in relation to directing the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to devel- op and maintain an application compatible with mobile cellular devices for electric vehicle charging stations SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends the public authorities law by adding a new section 1884, directing the New York energy research and development authority to develop and maintain an application compatible with mobile cellular devices which details the distance, driving directions, and location of the nearest electric vehicle charging stations. PERALTA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Energy and Telecommuni- cations AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to mobile cellu- lar devices THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The public authorities law is amended by adding a new section 1884 to read as follows: § 1884. APPLICATION COMPATIBLE WITH MOBILE CELLULAR DEVICES. (A) THE AUTHORITY SHALL DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN AN APPLICATION COMPATIBLE WITH MOBILE CELLULAR DEVICES. SUCH APPLICATION SHALL USE THE MOBILE CELLULAR DEVICE'S LOCATION TO DETERMINE THE DISTANCE, DRIVING DIRECTIONS, AND LOCATION OF THE NEAREST ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION. SUCH INFORMA- TION SHALL BE DISPLAYED IN THE FORM OF AN INTERACTIVE MAP. THIS APPLICA- TION SHALL BE UPDATED AT LEAST EVERY SIX MONTHS TO REFLECT CHANGES IN THE OPERATION AND LOCATION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS. THE AUTHORITY SHALL BE PROHIBITED FROM CHARGING A FEE FOR THE USE OF SUCH APPLICATION. (B) THE AUTHORITY SHALL ALSO MAINTAIN A WEBSITE WITH THE SAME INFORMA- TION AVAILABLE IN SUCH APPLICATION. § 2.
