S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 10632 I N A S S E M B L Y June 10, 2020 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Carroll) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Governmental Operations AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to prohibiting prior peace officers or police officers whose position as such was termi- nated or vacated due to misconduct from again becoming a peace officer or a police officer THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section 837-v to read as follows: § 837-V. PEACE OFFICERS AND POLICE OFFICERS TERMINATED FOR MISCONDUCT. NO PERSON SHALL BE A PEACE OFFICER OR A POLICE OFFICER WHERE SUCH PERSON'S PRIOR POSITION AS A PEACE OFFICER OR A POLICE OFFICER WAS TERMINATED OR VACATED DUE TO SUCH PERSON'S MISCONDUCT. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD16625-01-0
