 AN ACT to amend the public health law, in  relation  to  requiring  that
   genetically  modified  salmon  that  is  sold  or  offered for sale be
   labeled
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The  public health law is amended by adding a new section
 1356 to read as follows:
   § 1356. LABELING GENETICALLY  MODIFIED  SALMON.  GENETICALLY  MODIFIED
 SALMON  THAT  IS SOLD, OFFERED OR EXPOSED FOR SALE IN PACKAGING SHALL BE
 PLAINLY AND CONSPICUOUSLY LABELED  OR  MARKED  AS  GENETICALLY  MODIFIED
 SALMON. GENETICALLY MODIFIED SALMON THAT IS SOLD AT A MARKET OR DELI AND
 IS  NOT  PACKAGED,  SHALL  BE  MARKED OR LABELED AS GENETICALLY MODIFIED
 SALMON WITH A PLAINLY AND CONSPICUOUSLY LABELED SIGN LOCATED  NEAR  SUCH
 SALMON.  UNDER  THIS SECTION, GENETICALLY MODIFIED SALMON MEANS A SALMON
 THAT HAS BEEN ALTERED USING GENETIC ENGINEERING TECHNIQUES.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
