 AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation  to  motorcycle
   awareness on state highways
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is  amended  by  adding  a  new
 section 1686 to read as follows:
   § 1686. MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS. (A) THE STATE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION-
 ER  SHALL  INSTALL  SIGNS  ON  ALL  STATE HIGHWAYS IN AN EFFORT TO RAISE
 MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS. SUCH SIGNS SHALL CLEARLY STATE "WATCH FOR MOTORCY-
 CLES".
   (B) THE DESIGN, PLACE AND MANNER OF INSTALLATION OF SUCH  SIGNS  SHALL
 CONFORM TO THE MANUAL AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR A UNIFORM SYSTEM OF TRAFFIC
 CONTROL DEVICES ADOPTED BY THE STATE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.

   ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee
 
 AN ACT to amend the transportation law, in relation to motorcycle aware-
   ness on state highways

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 14 of the transportation law is amended by adding a
 new subdivision 36 to read as follows:
   36. TO INSTALL SIGNS ON ALL STATE HIGHWAYS MAINTAINED BY  THE  DEPART-
 MENT IN AN EFFORT TO RAISE MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS. SUCH SIGNS SHALL CLEAR-
 LY  STATE  "WATCH  FOR  MOTORCYCLES".    THE DESIGN, PLACE AND MANNER OF
 INSTALLATION OF SUCH SIGNS SHALL CONFORM TO THE MANUAL ON UNIFORM  TRAF-
 FIC CONTROL DEVICES ADOPTED BY THE COMMISSIONER.
   §  2. This act shall take effect on the first of April next succeeding
 the date upon which it shall have become a law.  Effective  immediately,
 the  addition,  amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation neces-
 sary for the implementation of  this  act  on  its  effective  date  are
 authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
