TITUS, AUBRY, WEPRIN, COOK, CAHILL, RYAN, PERRY -- Multi-Sponsored by -- M. of A. GLICK, MONTESANO, MOSLEY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to granting temporary parking permits for handicapped parking spaces to pregnant women THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new section 1203-a-1 to read as follows: § 1203-A-1. TEMPORARY PARKING PERMITS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN. NOTWITH- STANDING ANY PROVISION OF THIS CHAPTER TO THE CONTRARY, ANY MUNICIPALITY MAY ISSUE A TEMPORARY SPECIAL VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION PARKING PERMIT TO ANY WOMAN WHO IS PREGNANT, AS CERTIFIED BY A PHYSICIAN. SUCH TEMPORARY SPECIAL VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION PARKING PERMIT SHALL BE RECOGNIZED STATE- WIDE AND SHALL TERMINATE AT THE END OF THE PREGNANCY. § 2. Section 1203-b of the vehicle and traffic law, as amended by chapter 203 of the laws of 1981, is amended to read as follows: § 1203-b. Parking spaces; handicapped. 1. Parking spaces for the hand- icapped as provided for in sections one thousand two hundred three-a and one thousand two hundred three-c of this [chapter] ARTICLE shall also be extended to a motor vehicle registered in accordance with section four hundred four-a, OR A TEMPORARY PARKING PERMIT ISSUED PURSUANT TO SECTION ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED THREE-A-ONE of this chapter. A handicapped permit issued in accordance with the provisions of section one thousand two hundred three-a AND A TEMPORARY PARKING PERMIT ISSUED PURSUANT TO SECTION ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED THREE-A-ONE of this [chapter] ARTICLE shall entitle the driver to park in such parking spaces. Parking spaces for the handicapped shall be those parking spaces accorded to a holder of a handicapped parking permit provided in accordance with section one thousand two hundred three-a or as provided in section four hundred EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
