BRONSON -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Economic Development AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to the eligibility requirements for a license in the practice of barbering THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subdivision 1 of section 434 of the gener- al business law, as amended by chapter 469 of the laws of 2008, is amended to read as follows: (b) Satisfactory evidence of good moral character[, except that in determining an applicant's good moral character, the secretary of state shall not automatically disqualify an applicant on the basis of a crimi- nal conviction. The secretary shall review such criminal history infor- mation in accordance with article twenty-three-A of the correction law]; § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
