S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 9835 I N A S S E M B L Y February 20, 2020 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. JEAN-PIERRE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the powers of boards of education to temporarily lease necessary space THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 7 of section 1709 of the education law, as added by chapter 130 of the laws of 1976, is amended to read as follows: 7. To lease, on a temporary basis, necessary space not located on school property, when the facilities of the district are overcrowded, UNDER CONSTRUCTION, or damaged or destroyed, and to furnish and equip such space for school district use. The use of such space shall be subject to annual approval by the commissioner. § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
