 Introduced  by  Sens. KENNEDY, JACOBS -- read twice and ordered printed,
   and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education
 
 AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to developing  guidelines
   to  encouraging participation in apprenticeships and raising awareness
   in apprenticeship opportunities

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
 subdivision 57 to read as follows:
   57.  THE  COMMISSIONER  SHALL,  IN CONSULTATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF
 LABOR AND PUPIL PERSONNEL ADVOCATES, DEVELOP GUIDELINES FOR USE BY  HIGH
 SCHOOL  COUNSELORS  AND  GUIDANCE COUNSELORS TO COORDINATE SERVICES WITH
 LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES OF THE BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION  TRADE  COUNCILS,
 PORT  MARITIME  COUNCILS, AND COUNCILS OF MANUFACTURING AND INDUSTRY FOR
 PURPOSES OF ENCOURAGING PARTICIPATION  IN  APPRENTICESHIPS,  PRE-APPREN-
 TICESHIPS,   CAREER   AND  TECHNICAL  EDUCATION  AND  RAISING  AWARENESS
 SURROUNDING APPRENTICESHIPS, PRE-APPRENTICESHIPS, AND CAREER AND TECHNI-
 CAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES. SUCH GUIDELINES SHALL BE MADE AVAILABLE  ON
 THE DEPARTMENT'S WEBSITE AND SHALL BE UPDATED ANNUALLY.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
