BILL NUMBER: S7921 SPONSOR: HARCKHAM TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public health law, in relation to death certificates for persons whose death is caused by any act or event in which alcohol is a factor PURPOSE: The purpose of this bill is to require that when a cause of death is related to alcohol, the death certificate must indicate such informa- tion. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 mandates that death certificates must include indication when a death is caused by any act or event in which alcohol is a factor, including any related information as the commissioner may require.

HARCKHAM -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to death certificates for persons whose death is caused by any act or event in which alcohol is a factor THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 4141 of the public health law is amended by adding a new paragraph (e) to read as follows: (E) WHERE A DEATH IS CAUSED BY ANY ACT OR EVENT IN WHICH ALCOHOL IS A FACTOR, SUCH INFORMATION SHALL BE INDICATED ON THE CERTIFICATE, INCLUD- ING ANY RELATED INFORMATION AS THE COMMISSIONER MAY REQUIRE. § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD15498-01-0
