 Introduced  by  Sen. ADDABBO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Veterans, Homeland Securi-
   ty and Military Affairs
 
 AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to directing the division
   of veterans' services to route  838  calls  to  the  national  suicide
   prevention lifeline

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section  353-b
 to read as follows:
   §  353-B.  ROUTING OF 838 CALLS; NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION LIFELINE.
 THE DIVISION SHALL PROVIDE THAT ANY PERSON DIALING THE DIGITS 838  SHALL
 BE  AUTOMATICALLY  REDIRECTED  AND  CONNECTED  TO  THE  NATIONAL SUICIDE
 PREVENTION LIFELINE TELEPHONE NUMBER. THE DIVISION SHALL WORK IN COOPER-
 ATION WITH THE OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES,  LANDLINE  AND
 WIRELESS  TELEPHONE SERVICE PROVIDERS AND FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL AGEN-
 CIES IN CARRYING OUT THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
