CARROLL -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Election Law AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to allowing poll workers to be from any political party THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 3 of section 3-400 of the election law, as renumbered by chapter 9 of the laws of 1978, is amended to read as follows: 3. Appointments to the offices of election inspector or poll clerk in each election district, shall be equally divided between the major poli- tical parties. IN THE EVENT THAT A MAJOR POLITICAL PARTY DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH QUALIFIED APPLICANTS TO BE AN ELECTION INSPECTOR OR POLL CLERK IN A COUNTY OR WITHIN THE CITY OF NEW YORK, APPOINTMENTS TO THE OFFICES OF ELECTION INSPECTOR OR POLL CLERK SHALL BE QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WHICH ARE NOT A MEMBER OF ANOTHER MAJOR POLITICAL PARTY SUCH THAT THE LEAST NUMBER OF SUCH ELECTION INSPECTORS OR POLL CLERKS ARE APPOINTED IN EACH ELECTION DISTRICT. § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed- ing the date on which it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation neces- sary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
