S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 2345 2021-2022 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y January 14, 2021 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. FERNANDEZ, DE LA ROSA, SIMON, REYES, CRUZ -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring two quali- fied psychiatrists to be employed by each school district THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 902 of the education law is amended by adding a new paragraph c to read as follows: C. THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, THE TRUSTEE OR BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT, SHALL EMPLOY, AT A COMPENSATION TO BE AGREED UPON BY THE PARTIES, TWO QUALIFIED PSYCHIATRISTS AS DEFINED IN SECTION 9.01 OF THE MENTAL HYGIENE LAW. SUCH QUALIFIED PSYCHIATRISTS SHALL PERFORM AND COORDINATE THE PROVISION OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AND PROVIDE MENTAL HEALTH APPRAISALS OF STUDENTS ATTENDING THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT. § 2.
