S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 8553 2021-2022 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y December 13, 2021 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. SOLAGES, THIELE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring certain buses and trucks be equipped with commercial GPS devices THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 375 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new subdivision 55 to read as follows: 55. EVERY BUS, OMNIBUS AND COMMERCIAL TRUCK OPERATING UPON THE PUBLIC HIGHWAYS OF THE STATE, SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH A COMMERCIAL GPS DEVICE. SUCH GPS DEVICE MUST: (A) ALLOW THE CAPABILITY OF ENTERING INTO THE DEVICE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING LENGTH, WIDTH, HEIGHT AND WEIGHT; AND (B) PROVIDE ROUTE DIRECTIONS THAT ACCOUNT FOR COMMERCIAL TRUCK RESTRICTIONS SUCH AS BRIDGE HEIGHTS AND CLEARANCES, LOAD LIMITS, ONE-WAY ROAD DESIGNATIONS, AND LEFT-HAND AND DANGEROUS TURN RESTRICTIONS. THE GPS DEVICE SHALL BE KEPT IN GOOD OPERATING CONDITION AT ALL TIMES AND MUST BE MOUNTED IN A PLACE READILY ACCESSIBLE FOR USE. § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
