S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 9683 I N A S S E M B L Y March 28, 2022 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. LAWLER -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the transportation law, in relation to requiring the installation of safety netting on all new and renovated bridges THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 14 of the transportation law is amended by adding a new subdivision 16-a to read as follows: 16-A. THE COMMISSIONER, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NEW YORK STATE BRIDGE AUTHORITY, THE THRUWAY AUTHORITY AND LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES, SHALL ENSURE THAT SAFETY NETTING IS INSTALLED TO PREVENT FALLING OBJECTS ON ALL NEW AND RENOVATED BRIDGES, INCLUDING BRIDGES THAT CROSS OVER OTHER ROADWAYS, WITHIN THE STATE. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD14924-02-2
