BILL NUMBER: S3894 SPONSOR: KENNEDY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to granting peace officer status to park rangers in Erie county PURPOSE: The purpose of this bill is to grant park rangers in Erie county the status of peace officer so they can issue appearance tickets. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends the criminal procedure law by adding a new subdivision 86, which authorizes park rangers in Erie county to issue appearance tickets and various traffic, parks, and environmental conversation informations. Subdivision 86 does not authorize the carrying, possession, repair, or disposition of firearms.

KENNEDY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Codes AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to granting peace officer status to park rangers in Erie county THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law is amended by adding a new subdivision 86 to read as follows: 86. PARK RANGERS IN ERIE COUNTY, WHO SHALL BE AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE APPEARANCE TICKETS, SIMPLIFIED TRAFFIC INFORMATIONS, SIMPLIFIED PARKS INFORMATIONS AND SIMPLIFIED ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION INFORMATIONS; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT NOTHING IN THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL BE DEEMED TO AUTHORIZE SUCH OFFICER TO CARRY, POSSESS, REPAIR OR DISPOSE OF A FIREARM UNLESS THE APPROPRIATE LICENSE THEREFOR HAS BEEN ISSUED PURSUANT TO SECTION 400.00 OF THE PENAL LAW. § 2.
