BILL NUMBER: S3997 SPONSOR: KENNEDY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the social services law, in relation to standardizing child care copayments PURPOSE: To create equal access to child care assistance throughout the state by standardizing the amount of the family share. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section one requires that local social services of no greater than 20% of the difference in the poverty level.districts charge a copayment family's income and the Section two sets an effective date of the first date on which it shall have become law.of April next succeeding the

KENNEDY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Children and Families AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to standardizing child care copayments THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 6 of section 410-x of the social services law, as added by section 52 of part B of chapter 436 of the laws of 1997, is amended to read as follows: 6. Pursuant to department regulations, child care assistance shall be provided on a sliding fee basis based upon the family's ability to pay. THE LOCAL SOCIAL SERVICES DISTRICT SHALL NOT REQUIRE A FAMILY RECEIVING CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE PURSUANT TO THIS TITLE TO CONTRIBUTE MORE THAN TWENTY PERCENT OF THE AMOUNT OF THEIR INCOME EXCEEDING THE POVERTY LEVEL. § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of April next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
