BILL NUMBER: S6637 SPONSOR: STAVISKY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to allowing severely disabled individuals to renew parking permits without providing updated medical records PURPOSE: The purpose of the bill is to end the burdensome and unnecessary prac- tice whereby an individual with a permanent disability, as determined by their treating physician, is required to re-prove they are disabled when renewing a disability parking permit. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: This bill amends section 1023-a of the vehicle and traffic law by adding a new subdivision i-a to provide that any resident of New York State who is a severely disabled person, as defined in subdivision 4 of section

STAVISKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to allowing severely disabled individuals to renew parking permits without provid- ing updated medical records THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 1203-a of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new subdivision 1-a to read as follows: 1-A. ANY RESIDENT OF NEW YORK STATE WHO IS A SEVERELY DISABLED PERSON, AS DEFINED IN SUBDIVISION FOUR OF SECTION FOUR HUNDRED FOUR-A OF THIS CHAPTER, SHALL NOT BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE UPDATED MEDICAL RECORDS UPON APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF A PERMIT ISSUED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION. § 2.
