BILL NUMBER: S7596 SPONSOR: LANZA TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the election law, in relation to preventing munici- palities from abridging the election law PURPOSE: This bill would prevent municipalities from abridging the election law. LANZA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to preventing munici- palities from abridging the election law THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 5-106 of the election law is amended by adding two new subdivisions 7 and 8 to read as follows: 7. NO PERSON WHO DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO REGISTER FOR OR VOTE AT ANY ELECTION UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THIS CHAPTER AND/OR THE STATE CONSTITUTION SHALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO REGISTER FOR OR VOTE AT ANY ELECTION GRANTED TO HIM OR HER BY A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN, OR VILLAGE THROUGH ANY ACTION INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY AMENDMENT OF A MUNICIPAL CHARTER OR PASSAGE OF ANY LOCAL LAW. 8. NO PERSON SHALL HAVE THEIR RIGHT TO REGISTER FOR OR VOTE AT ANY ELECTION ABRIDGED BY A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN, OR VILLAGE THROUGH ANY ACTION INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY AMENDMENT OF A MUNICIPAL CHARTER OR PASSAGE OF ANY LOCAL LAW. § 2.
