safety of State Route 35 and State Route 22 from the Hudson River to the
border of Connecticut; and providing for the repeal of such provisions
upon expiration thereof

 
PURPOSE:

Authorizes the department of transportation to conduct a study pertain-
ing to safety traffic flow and safety of State Route 35 and State Route
22 from the Hudson River to the border of Connecticut

 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section 1 authorizes the department of transportation to conduct a study
of the traffic flow and safety of both State Route 35 and State Route 22
from the Hudson River to the border of Connecticut. The department shall
study the present conditions and data to ensure the safe and effective

flow of traffic on State routes 35 and 22. The department shall report
their findings to both the governor and the legislature within one year
of the effective date of this act.

Section 2 is the effective date.

 
JUSTIFICATION:

State Route 35 is a frequently traveled, essential roadway for residents
of Westchester County, as it is the principal east-west highway in the
northern part of Westchester County. State Route 35 sees approximately
16,500 vehicles daily. State Route 22 is also a frequently traveled
roadway and is one of the oldest components of the State's highway
system. Due to increasing traffic congestion and rising levels of traf-
fic incidents on both roadways, these studies were requested by their
respective municipalities in order to ensure the effective flow of traf-
fic as well as driver safety.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire one year after
it shall have become a law when upon such data the provisions of this
act shall be deemed repealed.

 AN ACT in relation to authorizing a study pertaining to traffic flow and
   safety of State Route 35 and State Route 22 from the Hudson  River  to
   the  border  of  Connecticut;  and  providing  for  the repeal of such
   provisions upon expiration thereof

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The department of transportation is hereby authorized and
 directed to conduct a study pertaining to traffic  flow  and  safety  of
 State Route 35 and State Route 22 from the Hudson River to the border of
 Connecticut.
   1.  The  department  shall  study  the  current conditions and data to
 ensure the safe and effective traffic flow of State Route 35  and  State
 Route 22.
   2.  The department of transportation shall report such findings to the
 governor and the legislature within one year after the effective date of
 this act.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire one  year
