BILL NUMBER: S8177 SPONSOR: ORTT TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public health law, in relation to providing direct reciprocal certification for certain emergency medical technicians PURPOSE: To change how a NYS EMT may obtain a standard license through direct reciprocity with the National registry. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. Amends the Public Health Law by adding a new section, 3005-c. The section would require the commissioner of health, with the bureau of emergency services, to grant NYS emergency medical technician certif- ication to any individual who holds a certification from the national registry without a fee or examination. Section 2. Establishes an immediate effective date.

ORTT -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to providing direct reciprocal certification for certain emergency medical technicians THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The public health law is amended by adding a new section 3005-c to read as follows: § 3005-C. EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS; DIRECT RECIPROCAL CERTIF- ICATION. THE COMMISSIONER, IN CONSULTATION WITH THE BUREAU OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES, OTHERWISE SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ARTICLE AND THE RULES OF THE DEPARTMENT PROMULGATED THEREUNDER PRESCRIBING THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, SHALL GRANT, WITHOUT PAYMENT OF A FEE OR EXAMINATION, A NEW YORK STATE EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION TO ANY INDIVIDUAL WHO HOLDS A CURRENT CERTIF- ICATION FROM THE NATIONAL REGISTRY OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS. RENEWALS OF CERTIFICATION UNDER SUCH GRANT OF RECIPROCITY SHALL BE DEEMED EQUIVALENT TO RENEWALS OF CERTIFICATION PURSUANT TO SUBDIVISION TWO OF SECTION THREE THOUSAND TWO OF THIS ARTICLE. § 2.
