BARCLAY -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Local Governments AN ACT to amend the county law, in relation to reestablishing the office of coroner in the county of Oswego and removing the powers and duties of coroners from the district attorney in such county and allowing Oswego county to appoint a coroner; and to repeal chapter 369 of the laws of 1920, abolishing the office of coroner in the county of Oswe- go, and providing that the powers and duties of coroners in such coun- ty shall hereafter be exercised by the district attorney, relating thereto THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. This act reestablishes the office of coroner within the county of Oswego and removes such powers and duties from the office of the district attorney and places it with the office of the coroner with- in the county of Oswego. § 2. Chapter 369 of the laws of 1920, abolishing the office of coroner in the county of Oswego, and providing that the powers and duties of coroners in such county shall hereafter be exercised by the district attorney, is REPEALED. § 3. Section 400 of the county law is amended by adding a new subdivi- sion 3-c to read as follows: 3-C. CORONER IN OSWEGO COUNTY. THE OFFICE OF CORONER IS HEREBY REES- TABLISHED IN THE COUNTY OF OSWEGO. THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE CORONER PREVIOUSLY HELD BY THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY ARE NOW PLACED IN THE OFFICE OF THE CORONER OF THE COUNTY OF OSWEGO. SUCH CORONER SHALL BE APPOINTED BY THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE AND SHALL SERVE AT THE PLEASURE OF THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE AND SUCH APPOINTMENT MAY BE REVOKED AT ANY TIME BY RESOL- UTION OF THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE AND FILING OF A CERTIFICATE OF SUCH REVOCATION IN THE OFFICE OF THE COUNTY CLERK. § 4. This act shall take effect immediately; provided however, that the district attorney in Oswego county shall continue to serve as the coroner until such time as a coroner is appointed.
