 AN ACT to amend the  environmental  conservation  law,  in  relation  to
   prohibiting the importation of bait fish into the state
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. Section 11-1703 of the environmental  conservation  law  is
 amended by adding a new subdivision 8 to read as follows:
   8. NO PERSON SHALL IMPORT INTO THE STATE ANY LIVE BAIT FISH AS DEFINED
 IN  SUBDIVISION  ONE  OF SECTION 11-1315 OF THIS ARTICLE, FOR THE USE OF
 BAIT FISHING IN INLAND WATERS.
   § 2. Section 71-0921 of the environmental conservation law is  amended
 by adding a new subdivision 15 to read as follows:
   15.  ANY  PERSON  WHO VIOLATES SUBDIVISION EIGHT OF SECTION 11-1703 OF
 THIS CHAPTER SHALL  BE  GUILTY  OF  A  CLASS  A  MISDEMEANOR  AND,  UPON
 CONVICTION  THEREOF,  SHALL  BE  PUNISHED BY A FINE NOT TO EXCEED TWENTY
 DOLLARS FOR EACH FISH UNLAWFULLY POSSESSED.
   § 3. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
 it shall have become a law.
