S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 10596 I N A S S E M B L Y June 20, 2024 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Rajkumar) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Codes AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to municipal gun buyback programs THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 233 of the executive law is amended by adding a new subdivision 6 to read as follows: 6. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, "GUN BUYBACK" SHALL MEAN REMUNER- ATION FOR THE VOLUNTARY RELINQUISHMENT OF A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN FOR DISPOSAL THAT RENDERS SUCH WEAPON INOPERABLE, AND ALL COMPONENTS THEREOF UNABLE TO BE INCORPORATED IN AN OPERABLE FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOT- GUN. NO FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN SHALL BE ELIGIBLE FOR SURRENDER AND REMUNERATION IF IT WAS MANUFACTURED FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECEIVING A MONE- TARY REWARD UNDER A GUN BUYBACK PROGRAM. § 2.
