 AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to authorizing grants for
   the implementation of the seal of civic readiness program
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 3641-c
 to read as follows:
   § 3641-C. GRANTS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE  SEAL  OF  CIVIC  READINESS
 PROGRAM. BEGINNING WITH STATE FISCAL YEAR TWO THOUSAND TWENTY-THREE--TWO
 THOUSAND  TWENTY-FOUR,  WITHIN THE AMOUNT APPROPRIATED FOR SUCH PURPOSE,
 THE COMMISSIONER SHALL ESTABLISH  A  PROGRAM  OF  COMPETITIVELY  AWARDED
 GRANTS OF FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS TO NO MORE THAN TWENTY APPLICANT SCHOOL
 DISTRICTS  PER YEAR, FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
 BOTH THE SEAL OF CIVIC READINESS APPLICATION  AND  COMMISSIONER  CREATED
 GRANT APPLICATION. GRANTS SHALL BE AWARDED BY THE COMMISSIONER FOR EXEM-
 PLARY  APPLICATIONS THAT PROVIDE PLANS FOR THE UTILIZATION OF ANY COMBI-
 NATION  OF  TEACHING  AND/OR  CLERICAL  STAFF,  COMMUNITY  PARTNERSHIPS,
 PROFESSIONAL  DEVELOPMENT,  CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN TO CARRY
 OUT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SEAL OF CIVIC READINESS PROGRAM.
   § 2. This act shall take effect April 1, 2023.
