 AN ACT to amend chapter 53 of the laws of  2021,  enacting  the  aid  to
   localities budget, in relation to supporting refugees from Afghanistan
   and Ukraine
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as  the  "securing
 and assisting vulnerable evacuees (SAVE) act".
   §  2.  Recent  turmoil in Afghanistan and Ukraine has caused a signif-
 icant flight of people from  both  nations,  requiring  other  countries
 throughout  the  world  to assist in the resettlement of individuals and
 families who have been displaced through no fault of their  own.    This
 bill  is  intended  to  allocate adequate funding to support a potential
 significant increase in the number of refugees that New York state  will
 be taking in as a result of these ongoing situations.
   §  3. Section 1 of chapter 53 of the laws of 2021, enacting the aid to
 localities budget, is amended by repealing the items  herein  below  set
 forth  in  brackets and by adding to such section the other items under-
 scored in this section:
