 AN  ACT  to  amend  the navigation law, in relation to requiring boating
   safety courses to be completed once every three years
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. Section 78 of the navigation law is amended by adding a new
 subdivision 4 to read as follows:
   4.  BOATING  SAFETY  CERTIFICATES AWARDED UNDER THIS PART SHALL EXPIRE
 THREE YEARS AFTER THE HOLDER THEREOF HAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED A COURSE
 OF INSTRUCTION IN BOATING SAFETY AS PROVIDED IN THIS SECTION.
   § 2. Section 79 of the navigation law  is  amended  by  adding  a  new
 subdivision 3 to read as follows:
   3.  A  PERSON PREVIOUSLY AWARDED A BOATING SAFETY CERTIFICATE SHALL BE
 CONSIDERED TO HAVE COMPLETED A COURSE OF  INSTRUCTION  UNDER  THIS  PART
 UPON  PASSING  AN EXAMINATION ON BOATING SAFETY DEVELOPED BY THE COMMIS-
 SIONER.
   § 3. This act shall take effect one year after it shall have become  a
 law.
