SOLAGES, NORRIS, McDONOUGH, SMULLEN, BLANKENBUSH, HAWLEY, MILLER, DeSTEFANO, MORINELLO, MANKTELOW -- read once and referred to the Committee on Local Governments AN ACT to amend the general municipal law, in relation to authorizing the posting by each municipality of turtle crossing signs on local roads located within such municipality; and to amend the transporta- tion law, in relation to empowering the state commissioner of trans- portation to develop and implement rules and regulations authorizing each municipality to post turtle crossing signs on local roads located within such municipality THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The general municipal law is amended by adding a new section 72-s to read as follows: § 72-S. WILDLIFE CAUTION SIGNS. EACH MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, ACTING THROUGH ITS GOVERNING BOARD, MAY, BY RESOLUTION OR LOCAL LAW, AUTHORIZE THE POSTING BY SUCH MUNICIPALITY OF TURTLE CROSSING SIGNS ON LOCAL ROADS SITUATED WITHIN SUCH MUNICIPALITY IN CONFORMITY WITH REGULATIONS PROMUL- GATED BY THE STATE COMMISSIONER OF TRANSPORTATION PURSUANT TO SUBDIVI- SION THIRTY-SEVEN OF SECTION FOURTEEN OF THE TRANSPORTATION LAW. § 2. Section 14 of the transportation law is amended by adding a new subdivision 37 to read as follows: 37. TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS AUTHORIZING EACH MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, AS DEFINED IN SECTION TWO OF THE GENERAL MUNICI- PAL LAW, TO POST TURTLE CROSSING SIGNS ON LOCAL ROADS SITUATED WITHIN SUCH MUNICIPALITY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION SEVENTY- TWO-S OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL LAW. SUCH REGULATIONS SHALL ASSURE THAT THE SIGNS SHALL BE IN CONFORMITY WITH RULES AND REGULATIONS PROMULGATED BY THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION REGARDING WARNING OR CAUTION SIGNS. § 3.
