VANEL -- read once and referred to the Committee on Housing AN ACT to amend the real property law, in relation to requiring lessors to provide a copy of a lease agreement upon written request of a resi- dential lessee THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The real property law is amended by adding a new section 235-j to read as follows: § 235-J. DUTY TO FURNISH LEASE. UPON RECEIPT OF A WRITTEN REQUEST FROM A RESIDENTIAL LESSEE, THE LESSOR OR THEIR AUTHORIZED AGENT SHALL HAVE THE DUTY TO FURNISH A COPY OF THE LEASE AGREEMENT ENTERED INTO BETWEEN THE LESSOR AND THE LESSEE WITHIN THIRTY CALENDAR DAYS FROM THE DATE OF SUCH REQUEST, PROVIDED HOWEVER THAT THIS DUTY SHALL NOT APPLY WHERE A LESSEE REQUESTS A COPY OF THEIR LEASE AGREEMENT MORE THAN TWO TIMES IN A CALENDAR YEAR. § 2.
