 AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to  prohibiting  individ-
   uals  convicted  of  stealing  public  funds  from  being  elected  or
   appointed as a member of a school board of education

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 1501-d
 to read as follows:
   §  1501-D.  BOARDS  OF EDUCATION; PERSONS CONVICTED OF STEALING PUBLIC
 FUNDS. NO PERSON SHALL BE ELIGIBLE TO  BE  ELECTED  OR  APPOINTED  AS  A
 MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF ANY SCHOOL DISTRICT IF HE OR SHE HAS
 BEEN  CONVICTED  OF  STEALING  PUBLIC FUNDS UNDER ANY CRIME SET FORTH IN
 ARTICLE ONE HUNDRED FIFTY-FIVE OF THE PENAL LAW.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
