   tee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions
 
 AN  ACT  to  amend  the public authorities law, in relation to a reduced
   fare program in the metropolitan transportation authority for veterans
   who are students
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Section  1266 of the public authorities law is amended by
 adding a new subdivision 20 to read as follows:
   20. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW OR  THE  TERMS  OF  ANY
 CONTRACT,  THE  AUTHORITY IN CONSULTATION WITH THE NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT
 AUTHORITY, THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD AND THE METRO-NORTH COMMUTER  RAIL-
 ROAD  COMPANY SHALL ESTABLISH AND IMPLEMENT A HALF FARE RATE PROGRAM FOR
 TRANSPORTATION ON NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT AUTHORITY SYSTEMS  FOR  VETERANS
 WHO  ARE  FULL-TIME  OR PART-TIME UNDERGRADUATE, GRADUATE  OR VOCATIONAL
 STUDENTS ATTENDING AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE  OR  UNIVERSITY  OR  VOCATIONAL
 INSTITUTION.  FOR PURPOSES OF THIS SUBDIVISION: (A) "VETERAN" SHALL MEAN
 A MEMBER OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES  WHO  SERVED  AND  WAS
 HONORABLY  DISCHARGED  OR RELEASED UNDER CONDITIONS OTHER THAN DISHONOR-
 ABLE FROM SUCH SERVICE, AND PRESENTS AN AUTHORIZED  VETERAN  IDENTIFICA-
 TION CARD, AND WHO IS A RESIDENT OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK AT THE TIME OF
 APPLICATION FOR THE PROGRAM; AND (B) "VOCATIONAL INSTITUTION" SHALL MEAN
 A  BUSINESS,  TRADE,  TECHNICAL OR OTHER OCCUPATIONAL SCHOOL APPROVED AS
 SUCH BY THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE STATE OF NEW  YORK
 OR  ACCREDITED    BY   A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED   ACCREDITING  AGENCY  OR
 ASSOCIATION ACCEPTED AS SUCH BY THE REGENTS OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
